IT Services Specialist
A new vacancy exists for a IT Services Specialist to work within the Office of Technology Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit!  The IT Services Specialist serves as technical support for the internal IU organization and our students, as well as Local Education Agencies (LEA) around the county. This position will review and assign tickets to the proper staff as well as monitor the support lifecycle on the Technology team. The Specialist will provide phone, email, chat, and in person technical assistance across multiple locations. The IT Services Specialist will demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, time management, and a wide technical knowledge.  
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the daily activities of the IT Services Team and ticketing system to keep initiatives on track, on time, and on budget.
  • Provide technical support services to MCIU and member Local Education Agencies (LEAs) by resolving tickets at multiple levels.
  • Install, configure, maintain, support, and troubleshoot computer technology including, but not limited to:
  • Networking equipment (routers, switches, wireless access points).
  • Desktop and portable computers, computing devices, and peripherals.
  • Present and future client operating systems (i.e., Windows, Chrome OS, macOS, and open source).
  • Application software/suites, troubleshooting tools, antivirus remediation, security best practices.
  • Printers (e.g., laser, color, inkjet, wide format) and copiers when requested.
  • Coordinate backup and restoration procedures on respective systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop and run trainings in hardware and software applications as needed and lead technical product research and support.
  • Maintain proficiency in imaging techniques and rollout strategies to support initiatives.
  • Provide professional and effective technical support to internal and external clients as well as work with vendors and other partners as required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and base understanding of new technologies.
  • Travel to external locations as requested by the Supervisor of IT Services.
  • Support the IT Services Team with communications of all issues involving security beaches or breakdowns in addition to any other areas identified by the Supervisor of IT Services.
  • Service equipment, maintain records as requested, and close out assigned tickets in an efficient manner.
  • Continuously expand upon current skill set by attending required training sessions.
  • Coordinate the IT Services Team efforts with updating security and network/server configurations and documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the systems.
  • Maintain system end-user documentation and business rules.
  • Maintain current knowledge and a base understanding of internal and external client systems and new technologies.
  • Preserve and maintain good relationships with MCIU and LEAs, technical staff, vendors, and statewide counterparts.
  • Provide regular status reports on current projects and initiatives to the Supervisor of IT Services.
  • Project a positive image of the IU and its programs and services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the OTS Directors.
Location:
The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA.
 
Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 7 hours/day, 12 months (260-262 days/year)
 
Salary:

$47,100/year - $55,412/year

Requirements Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience required.  Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Certificate(s) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking, Cybersecurity, and/or industry-recognized related areas preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in any specialized area required as part of the job functions.
  • Expertise (includes one or more of the following):
  • Professional approach to their work that includes very strong customer service skills.
  • Interfacing frequently with customers and stakeholders.
  • Strong technology skills, including extensive use of Microsoft applications as well as MCIU software.
  • Specialized skills in area to be able to work autonomously as proven through work experience.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Office 365, and Azure.
  • Active Directory, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, VPN, LAN, WAN, and VLAN
  • Veeam backup and replication.
  • Servers and network equipment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, follow directions, and follow through with completed assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and read and understand highly technical documents.
  • Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and problem-solving skills; ability to use technology to work effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record without major traffic violations; travel to school buildings as required.
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
