Data Services Specialist
A new vacancy exists for a Data Services Specialist to work within the Office of Technology Services at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit!  The primary focus of this position is Child Accounting and PIMS reporting. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge regarding Child Accounting guidelines, along with School Code and the Basic Education Circular (BEC). The ability to work cohesively with others while exemplifying a positive rapport with our internal and external constituencies is a must.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintains procedural knowledge of state and federal guidelines for data reporting as well as technical knowledge of the systems used.
  • Assists with accurate and timely PDE PIMS and federal report creation, validation, and submissions for internal and external clients; notify staff of timelines, needs and requirements.
  • Provide support to internal and external clients to facilitate and meet their information and data needs by resolving reporting issues and providing system trainings.
  • Assists with account maintenance, communication, and troubleshooting of database and software systems, including the student management systems, HR, and Business systems.
  • Establish, design, and implement data systems, custom reports and queries, and data trainings for internal and external clients; coordinate and confirm the accuracy and validity of data supporting state reporting, billing, and program requirements.
  • Assists with the development and tracking of budgets for the Office of Early Childhood Services and the Office of Student Services; generates, verifies, and sends billing reports to internal offices.
  • Provide professional and effective technical support, guidance, and trainings to internal and external clients as well as work with vendors and other partners as required.
  • Access resources designed to assist and improve PIMS data collections and submissions, such as webinars, website announcements, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Facilitate end user technical, professional development, and data systems trainings as needed for internal and external clients.
  • Provide cross trainings or knowledge sharing as required to ensure system function redundancy exists.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the systems.
  • Maintain system end-user documentation and business rules.
  • Maintain current knowledge and a base understanding of internal and external client systems and new technologies. 
  • Preserve and maintain good relationships with MCIU and District, technical staff, vendors, statewide counterparts and representatives of the state-reporting program.
  • Provide regular status reports on current projects and initiatives to the Program Administrator – Data Services and Analytics.
  • Project a positive image of the IU and its programs and services.
  • Serve as a back-up and support to other OTS staff members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Administrator – Data Services and Analytics  and/or OTS Director.

The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit is located in Norristown, PA.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7 hours/day, 12 months (260-262 days/year)
$47,100/year - $55,412/year

Requirements Qualifications:
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Certificate in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Analysis, or job related area preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in any specialized area required as part of the job functions.
  • Expertise (includes one or more of the following):
  • Professional approach to their work that includes very strong customer service skills.
  • Strong Technology skills, including extensive use of Microsoft applications as well as MCIU software.
  • Specialized skills in area to be able to work autonomously as proven through work experience.
  • Knowledge of PIMS, Cognos, Data Goverance, Child Accounting/Child Count, MS Office Suite, and Relational Databases.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to work effectively with people.
  • Ability to work under stress and with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to schedule time to meet deadlines, to communicate effectively, and to read and analyze written and verbal information.
  • Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI
