JOB GOAL:     Oversee a districtwide food service program; analyze effectiveness, assure compliance with district, state and federal laws, regulations, and safety and sanitation procedures.




  1. Ensure that school meals are nutritious, appealing, excellent quality and served in an atmosphere that is safe, friendly and clean while ensuring that school meals provided to students meet district, state and federal guidelines.
  2. Assists in strategic planning and develops short and long-term Food Service Department goals that supports the policies and direction of the District.
  3. Prepares and administers the food service budget including revenue projections as well as managing the expenditures for labor, supplies, materials and equipment related to the food service program. Responsible for food service department’s integrity of break-even status.
  4. Communicate program information to encourage support for the school food and nutrition program from the School Board, administrators, faculty, students, parents and community.
  5. Consult with stakeholders to establish or revise operational policies; resolve problems involving food standards, labor costs and proper use of equipment and serving schedule.
  6. Confer with fiscal services, purchasing, warehouse, maintenance and operations and personnel department representatives to coordinate functions with food service operations.
  7. Provide overall prioritization of work assignments and management of functional team resources and their activities and oversees the daily workflow of the department.
  8. Provide constructive and timely feedback and performance evaluations to the Food Service Leadership
  9. Establish quality standards for the presentation and service of food.
  10. Ensure all records and supporting documentation is maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and policies.
  11. Prepare, edit, and manage correspondence, communications, reports, presentations, and other documentations.
  12. Develop cost-effective and inclusive menus that maintain nutrition integrity and meet all local, state and federal guidelines and regulations.
  13. Determine equipment needs and prepare specifications for the purchase of food supplies and equipment; review bids, make purchases and recommendations as appropriate.
  14. Assists in recruiting, interviewing and recommending staff for employment for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel, and achieving objectives within budget.



  1. Direct professional development workshops and training programs for food service personnel
  2. Supervise the processing of bills and reports needed by the District for the monthly reporting to the Department of Education and the School Board.
  3. Involvement in School District programs, whenever the services of the cafeteria, or staff are needed.
  4. Other duties as assigned

  1. Bachelor’s degree in food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or related field from an accredited college or university or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in management of school nutrition programs with a bachelor’s degree in any major.
  2. Three or more years’ experience in institutional meal planning and preparation.
  3. Three or more year’s supervisory experience.
  4. School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credentialed preferred.
  5. Serve Safe Certification required.
  6. Knowledgeable in the food service industry with an understanding of nutrition, sanitation, and food safety.
  7. Knowledge of laws associated with local, state, and federal regulations.
  8. Knowledge of regulations associated with the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs
