Transportation Route Coordinator

Creates and maintains school bus operating schedules (routes) to ensure all students are transported to public and non-public schools in a safe and efficient manner.  Interacts with drivers, parents, school administrators and the general public to provide information and to resolve complaints and provides supervision as directed, consistent with essential job functions.  Collects and maintains data necessary for application for transportation reimbursement from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Assist Director of Transportation as necessary. 

This 12 month position reports to the Director of Transportation and is included within the District's Act 93 Administrator group.

  1. High School Diploma; prefer bachelor’s degree or relevant equivalent experience.
  2. Ability to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of transportation scheduling patterns.
  3. Ability to express ideas clearly, both orally and in writing.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with Transportation Department administrators, bus drivers, mechanics and office staff as well as the public. Ability to work with others in a team environment within an organization that has multiple lines of authority.
  5. Thorough knowledge of the geography of the District and surrounding area.
  6. Ability to grasp and use new methods and technology as it applies to transportation services.
  7. Demonstrate proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products and basic knowledge of transportation routing.
  8. Knowledge of and experience with bus routing software and ability to learn new software applications.
  9. Should have excellent communication skills both oral and in writing. Must have good telephone skills and some supervisory experience.
  10. Knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to student transportation, including Early Intervention programs, DCIU policies and Board policies concerning pupil transportation.
