Director of Special Education
The Shippensburg Area School District is seeking applicants to fill the Director of Special Education.
This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and assessment of all specialized services including special education (Chapter 14), academic interventions, guidance, Section 504 plans (Chapter 15), gifted (Chapter 16), McKinney-Vento Act (homeless), and other related services (speech, psychology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, English Language Learners, homebound, Extended School Year, and foster care).
This is a 12-month, Act 93 position. Master of Education or Master of Science in Special Education is required. Candidates MUST have a valid Supervisor of Special Education certification. A minimum of 5 years of teaching and/or administrative experience in the special education field is a must. Superior knowledge of special education law, disabilities, programmatic needs of students, Access Billing, and current trends and techniques in the field. Excellent technological proficiencies (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.), exceptional attention to detail, a proven superior level of leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills are a must.
