Assistant Superintendent for the Wissahickon School District
The Wissahickon School District seeks a dynamic, collaborative, relationship-oriented individual with integrity, visionary leadership, superior communication skills, and outstanding, transparent administrative ability to serve as the Assistant Superintendent.  The Assistant Superintendent is responsible for providing district-wide leadership in all matters related to teaching and learning, and serves as the backup to the Superintendent in his/her absence. 12-month, full-time position.  Student enrollment 5,000; grades K-12; six schools
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Instructional Leader
    • Responsible for facilitating the development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs and activities and making recommendations for improvement
    • Responsible for providing the professional staff with the essential instructional materials for carrying out an instructional program that meets the needs of all students.
  • Teaching and Learning
    • In conjunction with the Director of Teaching and Learning, provide oversight in the area of Teaching, Learning and Assessment.
    • Assist in planning and implementing staff development programs for professional personnel.
    • Assist with the analysis and interpretation of student assessment results.
    • Serve as Administrative Liaison for the Board Curriculum/Technology Committee.
  • Technology
    • In conjunction with the Director of Technology, provide oversight for all instructional technology and educational data analysis in carrying out the district’s technology plan.
    • Assist in planning and implementing staff development programs for professional staff.
  • Student Services
    • In conjunction with the Director of Student Services, provide oversight for all aspects of special education (including Gifted and Speech and Language Services), psychological, guidance and health service programs within the district.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal special education laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Home Education
    • Provide “Home Education” families with information regarding state requirements and district procedures for approval of a Home Education program.
    • Collect and acknowledge receipt of required documentation pertaining to Home Schooled children at the end of each school year.
  • Federal Programs
    • Oversee all federal assistance and federally-related programs.
    • Work closely with the Business Administrator and Assistant Business Administrator in maintaining accurate accounts for all federally-related programs.
  • Policy Development
    • When requested, review policies associated with areas of responsibility to ensure policies are current and consistent with legal mandates and best practices.
    • Make recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools for changes in policy necessary to comply with current law and practice.
  • Strategic Planning
    • Serve as the internal facilitator for the district’s strategic planning process.
    • Work with action plan facilitators to chart progress toward completion of Strategic Plan.
  • Support of District
    • Assume the role of Acting Superintendent of Schools in the absence of the Superintendent of Schools.
    • Support and administer all adopted school board policies and district-wide administrative regulations.
    • Be operationally familiar with all district computer and information management systems.
    • Keep current in the developments and innovations in all areas outlined above by reviewing literature, attending professional meetings and conferences, and discussing developments and problems of mutual interest with other educators.
    • Assist in planning and implementing staff development programs for professional personnel.
    • Attend Board meetings and prepare reports for the Board as directed by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Requirements The following qualifications are required:
  • A valid Pennsylvania certificate (or letter of eligibility) for Superintendent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years as an administrator required (Central Office experience preferred).
