Join Dr. David Piper as he fills you in on the latest updates to the Fair Labor Standards Act and what you need to know. The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) was enacted to guarantee fair treatment of workers in regards to wages and hours worked.This seminar will review the act and provide insightful interpretation on how the FLSA impacts workers in the school business area.
Topics include:
- Understanding the Fair Labor Standards Act
- Employee versus Independent Contractor status
- Understand what makes an employee exempt or non-exempt from the law
- Wage and hour calculations
- Concept of minimum wage and hourly pay
-Determining regular rate of pay and salary arrangements
- Reporting requirements for payroll
- FLSA special problems, volunteers, coaches and employees working to two classes
