An online Orientation Web Session will be held on Tuesday, January 17 at 12:00 Noon.
This session will overview the course and expectations. This call will not be recorded.

The over-arching goal of a transportation department is to provide safe, efficient, and cost-effective service. Attaining that goal begins with a thorough understanding of relevant law and the principles of effective departmental management. This course provides a framework for both district-operated and outsourced operations with topics that include:
  • The law of public school transportation
  • Departmental operations
  • Subsidy calculation
  • Financial operations and human resources

Basics of School Budgeting and Finance - Understanding the Basic Education Formula (Williamsport)*

About the Workshop: Part I: Understanding the Basic Education Formula (BEF)
Check in begins at 8:30am. Program runs from 9:00am-3:30pm. Registration includes a continental breakfast and lunch.
Understanding the mechanics of the BEF formula, including all student and district weights, articulating the “share” concept behind the BEF formula, and appreciating the cumulative impact of the formula and what happens when more or less state funding is added.

  • Identifying, understanding, and explaining the trends behind each school district’s weighted student count and what it means for future BEF subsidy and state revenue.
  • Learning how to explain the BEF formula and its impact on your school district to your board and community; communicating your formula metrics and future formula metrics in an easy-to-understand manner.
