Basic Education Funding Commision Announces Proposed New Funding Formula

The Basic Education Funding Commission voted unanimously this morning to approve its recommendations for a new basic education funding formula. The proposed formula starts by counting students, includes weights for students living in poverty, English Language Learners and charter school students, and makes adjustments for small, rural school districts, local wealth and local tax effort. The proposed formula will now go to the General Assembly for further consideration.
