BARGAINING IN A BRAVE NEW WORLD

As school district budgets continue to shrink, the ability to understand the dynamics of bargaining and compensating employees creatively has never been as important as it is now. Learn about the current data, talking points, and solutions that can be used at the negotiation table to keep compensation within the budget. This workshop will discuss finance modeling, negations modeling, and bargaining strategies as well as review case studies of strategies being implemented in districts across the state.

RESOLVING CONFLICT: EVERYONE CAN DO IT!

Conflict is defined as a "struggle" between two individuals or groups who perceive their goals as incompatible. This seminar is designed to address the two dimensions of conflict-the issue of the conflict and the emotions surrounding the conflict-and provides insight into how conflict can be managed and resolved. Learn about how emotions influence conflict; analyzing conflict; the 4 main types of conflict; assessing and knowing your conflict resolution style; best alternatives to a negotiated agreement; knowing your alternatives and creative problems solving and the use of standards in conflict resolution.

Schools across the country are facing the budget cliff created by global and local economic circumstances combined with the end of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and Education Jobs Bill funding. At the same time there is sustained pressure to boost student achievement while keeping school taxes low.
