Reverse Online Auctions
September 2008A reverse online auction is a type of auction in which the role of the buyer and seller are
reversed, with the primary objective to drive purchase prices downward. In an ordinary auction (also known as a forward auction), buyers compete to obtain a good or service. In a reverse auction, sellers compete to obtain business. LEAs are now beginning to add this
tool to the mix of procurement options in pursuit of savings. This webcast will provide the
framework for reverse auctions, explain how they work, and provide an example of how a reverse auction can be used in a LEA setting. Learn about: Legal framework to conduct a reverse auction; How reverse online auctions work; How districts can participate; Potential benefits to school districts; and Case study of how one school district has achieved savings.
